Notes for Guests

Timing:  In studio guests should arrive in the East Orland WERU studio no later than 15 minutes before air time.  Your host/producer will be there at least 30 minutes ahead of time.

Facilities:  The WERU studio has restrooms and a kitchen.  We try to provide coffee and tea options for guests as time allows.  There are glasses for water.   We are permitted to bring drinks into the booth.

Microphone and Headphones:  Each guest and the host will have a dedicated microphone and set of headphones (with individually adjustable volume).  Placing the microphone at a 45º angle will decrease pops that come with Ps and Bs.  Stay close to your microphone - about 6 inches away.

Phone in Guests:  You will need to provide a phone number where you can be reached.  Landlines provide the best and most stable signal, but if you are one a cell phone make sure you in a quiet place and are not driving.  Our show engineer will call you a few minutes before our appointed time.  Make sure to turn off your radio or computer stream.  You will be able to listen through your phone. On Air Guidelines: Relax and enjoy the other guests.  Interact, and ask each other follow-up questions.  Be thorough with your answers and thoughts, but allow for other interaction with host and other guests.  Please watch your host for visual cues.  I will typically address questions to one guest, but please follow up if you have something to add.  Oh, and please do not vulgar language that refers to bodily functions, parts, and processes (FCC rules).

Introductions and Station Breaks:  Unless you tell me you prefer otherwise, I will likely introduce you by your full title, but address you by your first name.  I will try to make sure to introduce all guests several times during the program.  At around 20 after and 20 ‘til, I will need to take a moment and give the WERU call signal.  These moments tend to coincide with reintroductions and change of topic.

Dress:  The booth temperature can go from chilly to warm several times in one hour.  Bring layers that are easily (and quietly) changed.

Support Materials:  Please bring any program, product, or reference information you want to share with our audience.  Make sure you have contact and website addresses to share “for more information,” and “how to get involved.”  There is very little table surface available for notes.  You may want to bring a notebook or clipboard for notes.

Program Availability: The show will be available for streaming just a few hours after it airs.  Within one week, the show will be available for download.  You or your organization are welcome (and encouraged) to link to the WERU website.  You may also upload the program to your own server.  Please just make sure to give WERU and Unity College production credit.  (http://archives.weru.org/category/mid-coast-currents)

If You Are Running Late:  If it is close to air-time, my phone will be off.  Call the studio and let us know.
