Mid-Coast Currents is a call-in public affairs program of WERU Community Radio in partnership with Unity College. Mid-Coast Currents provides informed discussion of people, events, organizations, and issues that are relevant to residents of Knox and Waldo Counties in Maine and interesting to the broader WERU audience. The program is designed to explore issues relevant to mid-coast Maine; expose listeners to environmentally and socially responsible businesses and organizations; and promote community.
Mid-Coast Currents furthers the WERU mission by providing residents and organizations of Knox and Waldo Counties access to relevant and informed discussion regarding topics of particular local interest along with the opportunity to share their own stories, concerns, and thoughts. To my knowledge, there is currently no such radio show focused on providing residents of this area access to information, discussion, and the opportunity to share their perspectives on issues especially relevant to them. This aspect directly addresses WERU’s mission to be a “voice of many voices” for a significant portion of the WERU coverage area.
